Why Goal Setting Doesn’t Work

I have been trying to avoid writing this post – my house is clean, my desk is tidy, the bins are out, the birdseed is topped up, the fireplace is clean and re-laid.

Today is a JEDI day – in my business coach’s words:  Just Effing Do It

I must do the blog! It’s the beginning of January.

Resolutions have been set and already broken

Goals and dreams have been drawn up and planned.  I love the planning and dreaming.

I have just demonstrated exactly why goal setting doesn’t work…for me.

THE NUMBER ONE REASON goal setting does not work for me is because I don’t work!!

This year am I prepared to continue to be lazy and simply dream or…

am I going to make those dreams come true?

Dreaming is fun.  Visualising is fun.

Now am I prepared to do some things I don’t want to do to make those dreams come true?

What about you?

Have you set your goals for this year?  If so, take just one of those.  The one that is the most immediate one and ask yourself ‘why do I want to achieve that?’  Write down specifically why you want that.  What will it give you? How will it make you feel when you’ve achieved it? What difference will it make to you and to those around you?  Will it make a difference to you and those around you?

Then ask, ‘Really?  Do I really want that?’ and go through the process again and again and again until you know for absolute sure that this is what you really, really want.

Then go ahead and plan the actions you need to take to make it happen.

Plan those into your diary IN STONE

And get to work.

As he says, we over-estimate we can achieve in a year and massively under-estimate what we can do in a day.

Let’s make each day count

Let’s go GOAL GETTING every single day of 2017
